A big thanks to Amanda, Katie, Muriel and all the bakers and sellers for helping out in our fantastic bake sale!

So many people donated such lovely things, but somehow we managed to sell everything by the end of the day. We had several people return more than twice to buy more cakes because they were so delicious!

We raised 426 Euro for the club so thanks and well done again to everyone for helping!

We're busy setting up for our 3rd annual dive talks series starting in November (dusac.org/talks).

To help fund the series, we're looking at sponsorship options, and so are doing bit of market research. We've put together a very simple, quick and anonymous survey:

    http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/NGDKMHV

We would be very grateful if you could take a few seconds to fill it out as the info will greatly assist our endeavours.

    Thanks very much

At the end of June, BSAC announced their branch awards for 2010-11, and DUSAC once again featured highly.

Across all BSAC university branches, DUSAC were commended for having:

    •  The largest new member intake in 2010
    •  The highest number of Club Instructor qualifications awarded
    •  The second highest number of new Club Ocean Divers (the first qualification on BSAC's diving ladder)
    •  The third highest number of Club Assistant Instructors trained (the first step on BSAC's instructor ladder)

Congratulations to all members of DUSAC and to the 2009-10 and 2010-11 committees for another very successful year.

Over the winter, we're going to be hosting our third annual series of public dive-themed talks.

We have an an excellent line-up of speakers to talk about a range of topics from the leading edge of diving. This year we'll be hearing from divers at the forefront of cave and deep wreck diving, from researchers exploring Ireland's lost shipwrecks, and from some of the people who run the services divers call on when things go awry.

All talks will be hosted in Trinity College Dublin, usually on a Thursday evening @ 7.30pm, with afters in O'Neills of Pearse Street.

Talks will be open to everyone to attend. For details of times and places, go to dusac.org/talks

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:39:]]A slightly belated story this, but better late than never.

Topknot returned from Cork in February with a shiny new Evinrude E-tec 115 HP engine. She made a brief return to the seas on the boat handling course, but then had to go back to Cork for more work. She's now back with us, and is working perfectly.

It took a lot of people to get the boat back to working order. First, we're very grateful to DUCAC for their financial assistance. Also, thanks to the outgoing committee and the club for their fundraising efforts (a special mention to Laura Nolan and Hazel Stafford). Many thanks too to Will Fyans for negotiating to get us the replacement engine.

Before Topknot could be brought to Cork we had to...

Another year has turned, the AGM has been and gone, and we've a new committee in place.

Thanks to support from DUCAC and the Trinity Trust, our fundraising efforts, and shrewd bargaining by the old committee and helpers (Will Fyans in particular), we managed to buy two new boat engines and a trailer in one year, and still leave enough in the account to tide us over the diving season until the membership money washes in again.

Many dives were done - a surprisingly healthy number, given our boat troubles - and lots of people joined and learned to dive with us. After the news, the lawyers were unleashed and briefly ran amok amending this and that. A spot of light voting followed, and then finally Paulie showed us some disturbing photo evidence from what - unbeknownst to many...

We've previously won BSAC's club of the year award, but never their Heinke Trophy - our two last efforts earned us runner-up and a commendation.

In one more bid to scoop the prize, Jim O'Connell has put together an entry for 2010-11, with contributions from many club members. Click here to read it.
